Hot Toys is SNEAKY with their very limited new Iron Man figure!
With its built-in cloaking system, the Mark XV “Sneaky” armor is among the most unique armors in Tony Stark’s “House Party Protocol” in Iron Man 3. Today Sideshow has put up for order Hot Toys’ special inspired take on the armor, livening up the original’s cool dark gray color scheme to give it the Iron Man classic red-and-gold finish which first appeared in the Iron Man 3 concept art of this armor.
The Retro Armor Version of the 1/6th scale Mark XV collectible figure has the same sleek form factor as the movie version, but is given the iconic red-and-gold Iron Man coloration with newly painted and electroplated parts to mimic the original concept art design. This figure features a meticulously crafted armor equipped with LED light-up functions on eyes, arc reactor and repulsors, the unique asymmetrical forearm design, plus a specially designed dynamic figure stand and gold colored name plate.

The Fly (1986) – for Annual Subscribers
It’s rare for a remake to eclipse the original’s popularity. However, David Cronenberg’s reimagining of The Fly has done that. When people think of The Fly they are more likely to think of Jeff Goldblum, his skin mottled, his fingernails and teeth falling out, than they are Vincent Price and the man-bug screaming “Help me! Help me!”. Now The Fly remake turns 30. Do its Academy Award winning monster makeup and memorable body horror hold up? If you support our show you can join Arnie, Jakob, and Stuart to find out!

Original Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Ghostbusters Production Materials to be Auctioned
Prop Store – one of the world’s leading film and TV memorabilia companies is to hold an exclusive online auction of puppets, models, artwork and production materials from the career of animator Phil Tippett. The veteran effects artist and filmmaker worked on some of the most beloved films of all-time, including the original Star Wars trilogy, Dragonslayer, Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom, the Robocop films, Jurassic Park, Starship Troopers, and countless others.

Bidding is possible from anywhere in the world, and global shipping is available.
Phil Tippett’s professional career began as a stop-motion animator in the 1970s before being hired by George Lucas to produce the Millennium Falcon chess-game sequence for Star Wars. Tippett stayed on with ILM for several years, notably animating the Tauntauns for The Empire Strikes Back and developing “go-motion” technology for the memorable dragon Vermithrax in Dragonslayer. Tippett founded Tippett Studio in 1984 and went on to produce or supervise visual effects for Robocop, Jurassic Park, Starship Troopers, and numerous other titles. Tippett Studio continues to provide visual effects services for many projects, with Phil directing and supervising projects in addition to working on his passion project—MAD GOD.

Brandon Alinger, Prop Store COO, commented on the upcoming auction: “We’re very proud to be handling this collection of materials from Phil Tippett’s amazing career in the film industry. In addition to the props, costumes, models and maquettes there is a vast collection of artwork and archival materials, many of which have never been seen before. If you’re a collector or a fan of the films Phil Tippett has been part of, this auction presents a wonderful chance to get a glimpse behind the curtain and become a caretaker of a small piece of film history.”
Phil Tippett said of the auction: “It’s been a lot of fun to take another look at these materials, some of which I haven’t seen for years. I’m glad that fans will have a chance to get them, and I hope they’ll enjoy them and look after the materials for the future. ”

Dark Horse Comics Announces ANGEL Season 11!
MILWAUKIE, Ore., (September 26, 2016)—Buffy’s first love will receive a solo series and a “re-vamped” creative team in Angel Season 11. Corinna Bechko (Lara Croft, Star Wars: Legacy II) writes Season 11 while Geraldo Borges (Deadpool, Ghost) illustrates the series, and Michelle Madsen (Buffy Season 9, Angel & Faith Season 10) colors the issues. Scott Fischer (Angel & Faith Season 10, Buffy: The High School Years) and Jeff Dekal (Journey into Mystery, Dark Horse Presents) both created covers.
Angel Season 11 finds Angel being tormented by memories of his past. His visions link his dark past to a Big Bad coming in the future. The goddess Illyria intervenes and assists Angel as he discovers that it might be possible to change the future by traveling back in time to change the past.
Angel Season 11 writer Corinna Bechko shared her excitement for joining the Whedonverse: “I’m thrilled that I’ll be helping to add to a little corner of the Whedonverse, a rich and exciting place that contains infinite possibilities for exploration. Of course, the fact that I’ll be doing so with Angel, one of the most complex and interesting characters, means I have big shoes to fill. But I can’t wait to spend some quality time with him during this journey, and to have a bit of fun along the way!”
The first issue of Angel Season 11 goes on sale January 18, 2017, the day before Buffy’s birthday! Angel Season 11 will have twelve issues total.

Ghostbusters (2016) – for Annual Subscribers
It’s been almost 30 years since the Ghostbusters took control, and despite repeated attempts the closest we got to a Ghostbusters 3 was the 2009 Atari video game. But finally we have an all new Ghostbusters — a total reboot that shows the original formation of three scientists to stop poltergeists from plaguing New York City. The film was politicized and mired in controversy almost from the moment it was released, but when you get past all that–is the movie good? Supporters of Now Playing can join Stuart, Jakob, and Arnie to find out!

Samsung Partners with Warner Bros. Pictures for Suicide Squad VR Experience – Premiering at SDCC
Today, Samsung announced its partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring exclusive virtual reality (VR) content and experiences to fans of the highly anticipated film Suicide Squad.
The VR content, which Samsung will debut at Co
mic-Con 2016 along with other Suicide Squad-themed immersive experiences, transports viewers into a scene from the film and features their favorite characters like Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Katana (Karen Fukuhara).
Using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, the VR content will debut at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21. It will transport fans into the world of Suicide Squad, experiencing what it’s like being a member of the Squad and watching their favorite characters, like Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Katana, in a scene from the film. It will be available on August 5 on Samsung VR, the brand’s premium virtual reality content service.
“Suicide Squad is one of the most anticipated films of the year and we’re thrilled to team up with Warner Bros. in this innovative way,” said Marc Mathieu, Samsung Electronics America’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Connecting with fans through immersive VR and 360 storytelling and breakthrough experiences gives Samsung yet another opportunity to explore how our technology can enhance popular culture.”
Gene Garlock, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Promotional Alliances and Partnerships, Warner Bros. Pictures, stated, “We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Samsung Electronics via such a broad and inventive partnership. Our collective aim is to reward fans of the property both in the consumer market and by giving them the chance to immerse themselves in a virtual environment alongside the Suicide Squad characters in a most realistic and exciting way.”
Samsung will provide fans exclusive content and experiences throughout the summer, including:
Nationwide Retail Promotion
Fans who purchase a Samsung Galaxy tablet* at leading retailers, will receive two tickets to see Suicide Squad when it opens in theaters August 5. The national retail promotion will run from July 15 through August 20, or while supplies last. For more information and a list of participating retailers, please visit SamsungPromotions.com/SuicideSquad.
San Diego Comic-Con
At San Diego Comic-Con from July 21 through 24, Samsung will help bring the film to life by transforming the Samsung Experience into a real-life Suicide Squad experience. The Belle Reve penitentiary, the high security prison in which the Suicide Squad themselves are held, will be recreated in the space and fans will have the chance to take part in immersive film-themed experiences, such as getting a custom tattoo in Harley Quinn’s tattoo parlor.
Attendees will have the option to ‘Join the Squad’, an interactive feature which enables them to create their own Suicide Squad character and generate a short video of themselves to share on their social channels. Fans can then create their own personalized skulls using the icon generator to live print them on their own exclusive t-shirt. In addition to the exclusive VR content debuting at Comic-Con, cast members will make an appearance in the space.
US Premiere
Samsung will celebrate the movie as an official partner for the U.S. premiere of Suicide Squad on August 1 in New York City, including the after-party. Samsung will create interactive experiences throughout the space to give attendees a chance to immerse themselves into the film using Samsung technology. Select Galaxy owners will also get exclusive red carpet access and a chance to see the film first.
Programming at Samsung 837
To coincide with the movie’s world premiere in New York City, Samsung 837, the brand’s experiential flagship where technology and culture collide in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, will feature special Suicide Squad VR content in the flagship’s VR Tunnel throughout the week of August 1.

Gentle Giant Daredevil Jumbo Figure Cancelled? Is This Line in Trouble?
Has Gentle Giant’s Jumbo Daredevil figure been cancelled? It sure seems that way.
Their 12-inch Daredevil figure was announced in October, 2015. I immediately pre-ordered from Big Bad Toy Store, anxious to not miss out on any of these Secret Wars replicas – 12-inch reproductions made from scans of Mattel’s original ’80s figures.
However today I received notice from BBTS my order was cancelled. The reason? This figure is not being made! The full text read:
Hello,
We have been informed by the manufacturer that they will not be producing the GG10720 12″ Daredevil (Secret Wars) . Unfortunately this means we must cancel our preorders for this item. We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your understanding. If this item is re-solicited in the future, we will be sure to publish it on our website once again.
We are disappointed our vendor is unable to fulfill this item and apologize again for the inconvenience. Thank you for your continued business.
Sincerely,
BBTS Customer Care
There have not been any new Jumbo Marvel figures announced for several months. While Gentle Giant has two DC Comics based Jumbo Figures as 2016 San Diego Comic-Con exclusives, Marvel collectors only have some mini Secret Wars bobbleheads to buy.
Is this the first sign of the end of Gentle Giant’s Marvel Jumbo Figure line? We have reached out to Gentle Giant for comment, but as of this post we have not heard back.
If we don’t hear back before, we have an interview scheduled with Gentle Giant next week at SDCC, so we’ll be sure to get the details then!

Dark Horse publishes collection of Kristen Gudsnuk’s “Henchgirl”
HENCHGIRL, THE VILLAIN WITH A HEART OF GOLD
Dark Horse publishes collection of Kristen Gudsnuk’s “Henchgirl”
MILWAUKIE, Ore., July 12, 2016 — Dark Horse is excited to announce the trade publication of the Henchgirl collection from Kristen Gudsnuk. Henchgirl is a unique series that subverts the typical superhero trope by telling the story from the perspective of a villain.
Originally published by Scout Comics, Henchgirl depicts the complexities of Mary Posa’s life. The daughter of Crepe City’s most famous superhero couple, Mary deals with the pressure of disappointing her family while avoiding the wrath of Monsieur Butterfly, her supervillain boss. Cursed with a conscience, Mary does everything she can to be something other than a henchgirl, but her plans for freedom always go awry.
Henchgirl creator Kristen Gudsnuk described the parallels between Mary’s life and her own: “A lot of Henchgirl comes from my own experiences of being a twenty-something stuck in a dead-end job. Luckily, I turned to comics instead of villainy. I’ve always loved filtering superhero and pop culture tropes through my own cynical perspective.”
The Henchgirl trade goes on sale March 29, 2017.
Henchgirl is a favorite of comic book fans:
“There’s an incredible balance of humor and darkness of the soul in this series…Henchgirl is the best book you’re not reading and it has everything you want from the genre.” — Comic Bastards
“Lovely and endearing but funny and clever [at] the same time.” — Girls Like Comics

Invaders From Mars (1986) – Donation Bonus
In 1986 the director of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Poltergeist teamed up with the screenwriter of Alien and Return of the Living Dead to make a…children’s sci-fi film! Do the creatures by Star Wars’ Stan Winston and John Dykstra upgrade this film for the ’80s, or is this film just a bad dream? After Men in Black II it seems audiences had been neuralized, the film franchise mostly forgotten. Indeed, Will Smith took a four year hiatus, while Barry Sonnenfeld only directed the Robin Williams vehicle RV. But in 2012, ten years after the previous movie, Men in Black 3 hit theaters. Men in Black – for Annual Subscribers
In 1996 Will Smith saved Earth from aliens in Independence Day. In 1997 he was back at it, donning his suit and shades to be one of the Men in Black. The film was an odd-couple comedy with witty Smith playing off stoic Tommy Lee Jones. The result was a hit that continued Smith’s hot streak of summer blockbusters. Now Arnie, Jakob, and Stuart review this film as the first episode of their Spring, 2016 donation drive series. Is the movie worth remembering? Donate today to find out!

Eisner Award Nominee Tom Beland Producing Original Art for Now Playing Movie Review Book Underrated Movies We Recommend
Venganza Media is adding another star contributor to its Kickstarter-funded publishing project, teaming with artist and author Tom Beland to produce original, exclusive artwork for Underrated Movies We Recommend.
In addition to designing the book’s cover, Beland will create 12 half-page and 6 full-page pieces that will bring to life 125 reviews of undiscovered and underappreciated films selected by the hosts of Now Playing Podcast. Prior to joining the Underrated team, the Santa Rosa, California-based Beland created 2014’s acclaimed Chicicabra and the Eisner-nominated series True Story, Swear to God, based on his real life romance.
With Beland on board, Underrated is one step closer to the end of a journey that began in February 2015, when Now Playing Podcast listeners funded the project on Kickstarter. The contributions exceeded all expectations and allowed Venganza to publish the book in hardcover and audio format. In October, legendary suspense and horror filmmaker John Carpenter agreed to pen the foreword to Underrated, contributing his thoughts on undervalued films and the devoted audiences that keep them close to their hearts.
You can pre-order Underrated Movies We Recommand now! The estimated shipping date is late summer, 2016.

Monogram Key Rings Unlock Marvel Comics Cuteness
One of the greatest joys I have in life is blind bagged collectibles. I enjoy the surprise and suspense of not knowing which character is in that little opaque package. The hunt for the chase figures, and the satisfaction of knowing that I completed the series are great feelings. These are all amplified if the item is amazingly cute. Nothing is better than a tough super hero or villain transformed into a cute and cuddly little being. That’s why Monogram International’s 3D Foam Key Rings are my latest obsession.
I first stumbled across these at my local bookstore. I liked the art on the package and it was blind bagged so I bought a couple. As soon as I opened them, I knew I had to get more. I was blown away by the each character and how uniquely cute they were. The first one I opened that day was Hulk. I loved how he looked like a shrunken version of Marvel’s Green Goliath. His little mop of black hair and little outstretched arms had me. I opened the rest of them and immediately went back and bought more.
These key rings are simply adorable! They have a rotund quality, and stubby little appendages, making them look like baby versions of their characters, and this only adds to the cuteness. The key rings are fully formed like action figures, but they are not articulated. What really makes these stand out is the fact that they are all different sculpts. These aren’t the same body painted a number of different ways. The heads have personality and are unique to the character. Some have little weapons they are holding, other shave capes like The Collector, and Ghost Rider has his signature flames on his head.
Monogram covers a wide array of characters in each series as well. Series 1 covered the standard characters with Avengers and a portion of the Guardians of the Galaxy team. In later series we see Falcon, Ant-Man, Luke Cage and even MODOK. Monogram even delves into Secret Wars territory, tying into that recent crossover event. There are also some chase or “exclusive” figures. Sometimes they are a color variant like gold Thanos in the Secret Wars series or the gray Deadpool variant in Series 3. Chase figures are typically packed in lesser numbers for each case and as a result, harder to find.
The only problem I have encountered with these is what to do with so many key rings! I have solved this problem by trading my extras or using them as intended, as key rings.. They also make great zipper pulls for backpacks. I have a collection of them and I am keeping them in various locations throughout collection as decoration. I have also found that hanging them on little hooks works well as they don’t stand up on their tiny feet. These are very versatile and can be displayed and used in many ways.
Packed in a silver bag with great artwork, these key rings can be found at various retail and comic store locations. They normally run around $5.99, which makes the price well worth what you are getting in that bag.
So what are you waiting for? Join the addiction and order some today.

The Hateful Eight – for Annual Subscribers
Quentin Tarantino returned to the wild west for his 8th film — The Hateful Eight. Yet this new movie’s focus on a group of untrusting, violent men trapped in a cabin makes it also a return to the director’s style from Reservoir Dogs. Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russel as two bounty hunters stranded in Wyoming, is Hateful Eight as good as both those earlier films…or it it worthy of your hate? Pre-Order Alert: Sideshow Collectibles’ Exclusive Captain Marvel Statue
Sideshow Collectibles’ exclusive Captain Marvel Premium Format Figure is now up for order! It stands 23-inches tall, showing Carol Danvers flying over a pile of wreckage. And if you order now you can get the exclusive version that has an swappable head showing her in her helmet!
While this is a gorgeous statue with marvelous color, I have to think this is the second statue Sideshow has put out that strains to justify its $500 price tag (the first being the Phoenix statue just last week!) Yes, Sideshow is making their statues taller through use of vertical bases, but that is not enough to justify the extra $120-$140 over what they were charging two years ago. For a basic human-sized figure, and at the rate Sideshow is making them, it’s hard to justify Captain Marvel’s cost to any but the most hard-core Captain Marvel fan.
While I have severe FOMO on this one, I’m holding off in hopes of a discount down the road.
But if this is for you…Get your order in now at Sideshow Collectibles!
Django Unchained – for Annual Subscribers
To ’90s fans of Quentin Tarantino’s slick, cool crime films, the idea of him making a western might have sounded ludicrous. But when Tarantino finally delivered Django Unchained in 2012 it was a critical and commercial hit. Django became Tarantino’s highest grossing film ever, and earned a second Oscar for actor Christoph Waltz. Is this film really Tarantino’s best, or was it overrated? Pre-Order Alert: Two new Premium Format statues from Sideshow – Hulk and Dark Phoenix!
Like a super-villain attacking your wallet, Sideshow Collectibles has just put up for order two new Premium Format Figures: Jean Gray’s Dark Phoenix and Hulk from Avengers: Age of Ultron.
These two statues are incredibly detailed, gorgeous pieces. But each carries with it a Hulk-sized price tag.
At $500 each, my number of Premium Format statue purchases will go down. That said, I love, and I’ve already ordered, the Dark Phoenix statue. With her fiery base and the exclusive Jean Gray swappable head, plus such an iconic character from what is arguably Claremont’s best story arc, this one is (barely) worth the price.
However, I have to go the other way on the Hulk. It was the movie-themed Premium Formats that got me into Sideshow Premium Format Figures to begin with. Black Widow, Captain America, and even the Avengers Hulk Maquette were all amazing. However, this new Hulk is $750 — $100 more than the Avengers Hulk, and $200 more than the (still up for pre-order) comic-based Hulk Premium Format Figure announced last year.
I will admit, I could have been swayed into buying this Age of Ultron Hulk if, like Phoenix, the exclusive piece was amazing. Perhaps if they included a red-eyed Rampaging Hulk head, or a hand holding a piece of Iron Man armor. But no, the exclusive piece isn’t a must-have; to me it’s actually a turn-off.
Hearkening back to the exclusive Legendary Scale Busts of previous years, this Hulk’s exclusive piece is a… nameplate. Now, I know I can choose not to display this piece since I already know who this character is, but it’s certainly not an enticement to pre-order.
I may still get Hulk pre-ordered once edition sizes are announced, but unless the edition size is 500 or less for the regular edition, I’ll be holding off and hoping for a Spooktacular deal on this overpriced piece in October, 2017.
I always appreciate anyone who’s ordering from Sideshow using our links and supporting Marvelicious Toys, but I find it hard to endorse a $750 version of a character (that MarvelToyNews.com pointed out…it looks like he’s bowling).
You can pre-order (and flex pay, as I did on Phoenix) both of these statues now:
Pre-Order Alert: Hot Toys Deadpool
Marvel’s most unconventional superhero, Deadpool, will finally hit the silver screen in full glory with his over-the-top personality, dark twisted sense of humor, and tendency to break the fourth wall which fans have always loved! Today, Hot Toys has put up for pre-order the one and only 1/6thscale Deadpool collectible figure based on the upcoming Deadpool movie!
In this new film, the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson will be unfolded, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Deadpool from the film. It features a newly developed masked head sculpt with 5 pairs of interchangeable eye pieces to create numerous combinations of Deadpool’s expressions, newly developed body, meticulously tailored Deadpool suit with weathering effects, Deadpool’s signature katanas and pistols, variety of interchangeable hands with gestures, and a specially designed Deadpool themed dynamic figure stand perfect for aerial poses.
You just can’t pass up on this opportunity to add the beloved Merc with a Mouth to your collection and witness the beginning of a happy ending.

Inglourious Basterds – for Annual Subscribers
Many may have thought Quentin Tarantino had peaked with his Oscar winning Pulp Fiction. His genre works of Kill Bill and Grindhouse hadn’t had the critical or commercial appeal of his ’90s crime films. But the director had been working for over a decade on his script for a World War II black comedy, Inglourious Basterds. It outgrossed all his previous films and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning one for actor Cristoph Waltz. But was this period piece fairy tale Tarantino’s best? Kill Bill: Volume 1 – for Annual Subscribers
Tarantino had dropped off the radar for six years after Jackie Brown, but in 2003 he returned to Kill Bill. This violent kung fu film was too big to be contained in one movie, so it was cut down the middle. It stars Uma Thurman as “The Bride,” a woman out for revenge on those who almost killed her. With her yellow outfit and her sword, did The Bride spear the hearts of our reviewers? As our way of saying thank you to supporters of Now Playing, you can donate today and find out!

From Dusk till Dawn – for Annual Subscribers
Quentin Tarantino is an obvious go-to for Mexican standoffs, but perhaps not so much for Mexican vampires! Yet that was the topic of one of the filmmaker’s early scripts that he revised and made with his pal Robert Rodriguez. Tarantino focused on his acting in his largest role to date, and Rodriguez handled the directing. With TV star George Clooney and Tarantino staple Harvey Keitel along for the ride, this crime-horror comedy found a cult following during its 1996 release. But do these vampires such? Donate and support Now Playing to get this “thank you” bonus review. Then you can listen and find out!
